This is something I have not gone over in my fancy premium report. Trust me you want it, because Alcatel-Lucent (ALU) is a fantastic company, but you need to be aware of all the risks. The reason I am not going to go back and amend the report is because I don’t care that much. I do think the CEO change is good news. A regime change is the kind of shake-up that ALU needs to demarcate the beginning of a new era.
The reason that I do not care too much is that, we have yet to see what the new CEO will do. We have yet to see if he will establish a new culture for the company, or if he will be molded by the existing culture. How much corporate inertia is there in ALU? The company could continue on the course it has been going on with piecemeal changes. Piecemeal relative to what I think it needs, but not necessarily in actual terms. The recent restructuring is not too bad.

Without more information regarding his specific plans I do not care too much. Haven’t even bothered to learn the name, but he was an executive at Vodaphone. He also worked at France Telecom. I am not to familiar with those companies so I cannot say if that is good news or not. We will have to wait and see what happens.
On a more psychological level, I mentioned that a regime change looks good. It at least gives hope that a change is coming. I am sure in short order we will see at least one big decision by the new man in charge. It might be something that was planned earlier but not executed. You always need to give the new guy a big coup when he starts.
On a separate note, I was talking to someone about ALU and they mentioned that ALU had a problem marketing itself. The certifications it offers for its products were not well known, nor were their offerings to enterprises. That is a fair point. Many people know what a CCIE and CCNA is, but I cannot even think of Alcatel-Lucent’s certifications. I did not even know they had them. Perhaps education will be one of the new initiatives as well as breaking into enterprises instead of just service providers.
